New FIPPA/MFIPPA Reference Card

I’m pleased to announce that FOI Assist will be an exhibitor at the 2022 AMCTO Conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario from June 12 to 14.

In preparation for the conference, I have created a 5×7″ double-sided reference card to help FOI Professionals remember some of the tricky details specific to general records requests, access to personal information requests, and correction requests under both the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, including a complete list of fees, exemptions and exclusions.

A PDF version of the reference card can be downloaded here:

I don’t have printed copies of this card available just yet, but I will be giving away full-colour laminated versions at the conference.

If you have any feedback on this initial version of the card, please let me have it — now would be the time! 😉

If you haven’t seen it yet, you should also check out the FOI Request Process Poster. I will send anyone in Canada a free, full-sized copy of this poster — just send me a request for yours.

I hope to see you at the 2022 AMCTO Conference. Please make sure to stop by the FOI Assist exhibitor booth, and if you are thinking of attending, let me know! I would love to hear from you.

I have created the FOI Assist™ software to help Ontario’s provincial and municipal government institutions of all sizes track and respond to Freedom of Information (FOI) requests. For most of my career I have been a lawyer, advising clients on commercial, intellectual property and FOI/privacy issues. From 2013 to 2015, I managed the FOI program for the Toronto 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee while serving as Legal Counsel to the Games. Prior to becoming a lawyer, I obtained a computer science degree and worked as a software developer at several well-known technology companies.
